Between keeping up with Freya’s zoomies and making sure she doesn’t decide to chase a squirrel into the next zip code, I’ve tested more than my fair share of GPS dog collars. So, when I got the chance to try out the brand-new SATELLAI Collar, I was super excited. With bold claims like “5-satellite system positioning” and “AI-powered care recommendations,” this collar promised a little bit of everything—and then some.

What Makes SATELLAI Different?
There’s no shortage of GPS dog collars on the market, and honestly, a lot of them blend together. But SATELLAI stands out by combining real-time GPS tracking, customizable fencing, and AI-powered health insights in one sleek little package. It’s built to be more than just a tracker—it’s your dog’s personal coach, babysitter, and health monitor.

Top Features
Before I dive into my experience, let’s look at what this collar brings to the table:
- Dual antennas with L1/L5 frequencies
- 5 global satellite systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS, BeiDou)
- PetSense™ AI with Head Shake Detection, Breathing Rate Monitoring, and AI-powered Daily/Weekly Summaries to give you a full picture of your dog’s wellbeing.
- Unlimited virtual fencing
- Indoor training beacons
- 5-to-7-day battery with 2-hour recharge
- Water and dustproof (IP68 rated)
- Voice commands and feedback options
- Fits dog neck sizes from 14-30”

Pros and Benefits
Right off the bat, I was impressed with how robust and thoughtful the SATELLAI system is. It’s clearly built by people who understand what it’s like to care for an energetic, clever, and sometimes rebellious dog (ahem, Freya).
- Accurate location (almost) anywhere in the world
- AI health insights
- Unlimited fences
- Indoor and outdoor training
- Excellent battery life
Now let’s break down what those pros actually mean for you and your pup.
Accurate Location Anywhere
If you’ve read my past reviews, you know that I live in a super woodsy area. I wouldn’t call it totally rural because I’m technically only a mile from town, but my development sits back off the main road quite a bit. Here’s a rough screenshot from Google Earth to show you what I mean:

Not all GPS collars can keep up in wooded areas or around obstacles like we experience on our walks. SATELLAI taps into five different satellite systems and uses dual-frequency antennas to stay accurate even in challenging environments. That means even if Freya managed to escape her leash and dart off through the woods or under heavy cloud cover, I’d still know exactly where she is.
Plus, SATELLAI tracking works in 180 countries. In comparison, most of its competitors either only work in the US or at best, in continental North America.
Historical Tracking Lets You See Where Your Dog Has Been
Another neat feature is the ability to see not just where your dog is, but where he’s been, too.

Yeah, I know, that doesn’t really help when Fido is actually lost but hear me out on why it IS really cool. Say you have a massive piece of property and you’ve given your pooch free range to roam all over the place on it. One day, he comes home sick or injured. Knowing exactly where she was on your property can help you narrow down the potential issue.
For example, Freya once got severely ill after getting stung by cicada killer wasps that were living under the deck. Freya used to lie in wait for squirrels under there. Knowing this helped us prevent it in the future because we were able to block off that area. Thankfully, this happened on a relatively small chunk of property and I was able to figure out the issue quickly. If I had acres of land, we never would have known before. So, I can definitely see the benefits of the Locus Map.
AI Health Insights
2026 Update: SATELLAI has made significant upgrades to their AI system since I first wrote this post. Now, their PetSense AI includes Head Shake Detection, Breathing Rate Monitoring, and AI-powered Daily/Weekly Summaries. That’s in addition to everything I talked about below.
I’ve been following the progress of SATELLAI since I first learned about them earlier this year. I follow the news out of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) every year, looking for cool new tech products, where they were featured. I thought it looked incredibly neat. While the GPS tracking and invisible fence capabilities are definitely a major draw, the detailed health tracking features were what really drew me in.
At first glance when you just start using the collar, the activity tracking doesn’t really look much different from the competition. However, it’s not so much what you see in front of you as what’s going on behind the scenes that sets SATELLAI apart. See, whenever your dog is wearing the collar, the PetSense AI is tracking her activity—running, walking, resting, and more. It then uses that data (plus breed-specific info) to spot unusual behaviors.
Plus, the built-in AI chat is super handy for all of your random dog questions, like “Why is my dog trying to eat bear poop?” Real question that came up on our walk yesterday, by the way. EWWWW, right? Sure, you could Google those questions, but if you’re already in the app it’s just a lot easier to pop over to the “How can I help you?” search box and get the answer in seconds.
Create Unlimited Fences
You get unlimited, and customizable fencing, including nested, overlapping, and weirdly-shaped fences with your subscription. Whether you’re at home, visiting Grandma, or road-tripping cross-country, you can create and store as many boundaries as you need.
Fence set-up is fairly straightforward. Just open the app, open the Fences section, and either choose to use a premade shape (circle) or create a custom fence. Either way, you can tweak the boundaries right on the app.

Indoor and Outdoor Training
Have a cat-food-stealing or garbage-raiding ninja like I do? The beacons act as mini fences indoors. Put one by the garbage can or your cat’s food station and the collar gives feedback when your dog gets too close. Outdoors, the custom audio, vibration, and even voice commands make it easy to set boundaries and reinforce training on the go.

Excellent Battery Life
The 5-7-day battery life is amazing. It’s leagues ahead of other collars that last maybe a day or two. Of course, the actual battery life does still depend on how you’re using the collar. Active tracking uses more power than the invisible fence features.
The 2-hour magnetic fast charge is a breeze, too. The only downside here is that it is a proprietary charger. You know how I feel about those. If you lose it or it breaks (or if your dog eats it, which Freya did with other chargers when she was a puppy), you’re up a creek until you can get a replacement.

Easy Set-Up
Connecting the collar to the app was incredibly easy. Answer a few questions about your dog, then hit the button to automatically find the collar, and voila. It found and connected to the collar within a second, too. You’d think that would be a basic feature and not worth getting excited about but I can’t tell you the hours of my life I’ve wasted just trying to get things to connect to their apps.

On the other side of easy set-up, “connecting” the collar to your dog is also a breeze. It uses a magnetic buckle versus a regular old slide-in or button-type buckle. Freya goes nuts when I put these types of collars on her because it means we’re going for a walk. You’d think that after years she’d realize that the sooner she stands still so I can get her “dressed,” the sooner we can go. Nope. So I really appreciate anything that makes it easier to get her ready to go out. You can even open and close it with one hand!

Drawbacks
As with any tech product, SATELLAI isn’t perfect (yet). Here are the few things I’d love to see improved, in order of importance:
- Not designed for small dogs
- Proprietary charger (as mentioned above)
- Requires a subscription
Not Designed for Small Dogs
The collar is designed to fit medium to large breeds with neck sizes ranging from 14” to 30”. That covers a very wide range of dogs, but it does leave off most of the smaller breeds. I’m a “big dog” person, so for me this is low on the list of drawbacks, but it’s definitely a deal-breaker if you own a tiny pooch.
That said, SATELLAI actually fits pretty well on giraffe-neck dogs like Freya. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Usually, I have to fiddle with the strap a lot and constantly reposition the collar to get it to sit just right.

Requires a Subscription
As of right now, you’ll need a subscription to access all of the features. Given that EVERY single tracking collar requires a subscription, this isn’t really a drawback so much as a “just so you know…” The plan will run you $9.99 a month or $119.88 a year, which is pretty standard for GPS collar plans.
What about the price?
I was on the fence about calling out the price as a drawback. I mean, like all smart collars, it’s not exactly cheap. But at around $500, it’s also pretty far from the most expensive. So I’m not really sure it’s fair to call the price a “drawback” given that it’s in line with the industry standard at this point.
Final Thoughts: Is the SATELLAI Collar Worth It?
If you want a collar that can track your dog across the globe, help you train smarter, and even guide you in caring for their health, the SATELLAI is a standout option. It’s especially ideal for active dogs and pet parents who value high-tech solutions that actually make life easier.
Would I recommend it for a chill couch potato pup who never leaves the yard? Maybe not. But for dogs like Freya—curious, energetic, and always down for an adventure—it’s an absolute game changer.
