Having a virtual fence feature is a must when looking for a GPS dog collar. Whatever collar you choose, the most important thing is to keep our dogs safe whenever they play and roam outside our homes. No matter how well-supervised they are or how closely we watch them when they’re in the backyard, accidents happen. Dogs are notorious escape artists, after all! Having a real-time tracker is a big help to reach our dogs the moment they just get outside our zone.
Today, we’re comparing two of the hottest dog tracking collars in the market: PetFon vs. Halo. Both of these invisible fence systems have fairly similar ratings among customers, so if you’re judging by reviews alone, it’s kind of hard to decide which one gives you more bang for your buck. I’ve discussed both of these products in a lot of detail in the past. I highly recommend that you read my in-depth Halo 2 dog collar review as well as the one I did on PetFon. For now, let’s just compare these two virtual fences side by side and then see which one wins.

Neither Halo nor PetFon requires you to dig in your backyard or install any physical fences. You can just set and customize the zones by using their respective smartphone apps.
PetFON’s battery lasts for up to 16 hours. It has a Geofence feature where you can track your dog’s location even at a long distance. You can look at your pooch’s history to know where it usually hangs out. You can turn on the colored lights to locate and see your dog in the dark. Dog parents will feel relieved when hiking and walking in the park knowing that they can locate their dogs wearing long-lasting dog locating collars.
Halo provides 21-Day program training in order for the dog to keep away from the boundaries and come back home safely. Halo’s Smart Fences are controlled fully via GPS and its internal collar technology. It can detect your pup even when on terrains, streams, rivers, or driveways. No more worries about losing mobile data and Wi-Fi signals when setting up and tracing your fence boundaries.
Design

In terms of style, PetFon works with almost any collar. Of course, there are always limitations depending on your dog’s size and the type of collar you use, but for the most part, it’ll work with pretty much any existing collar. That’s definitely one of the biggest draws, especially for dog owners who are really picky about how their pup looks (shout-out to all of you fashionista pups out there). It only comes in one color, blue. But it’s a very neutral blue that goes well with just about any collar design.
The Halo collar is, as the name implies, an actual collar. It only comes in black or white, and it is a bit clunkier than your average collar. But that’s to be expected since it houses the tracker and everything else necessary to make it function as an invisible fence.

Smartphone App

The Halo’s smartphone app allows you to do a bunch of stuff that other GPS dog trackers do not have, and one of which is the creation and customization of smart virtual fences for your dogs to stay safe, and then alerts you whenever they run outside of your selected boundaries.
The app also of course shows you the location and status of your dog as it should be in real-time anytime you want and anywhere they may be.
It also gives you the overall data about your dogs and the collar such as their daily activities, location, maps, training, battery life, and more.

The Verdict
PetFON is great for adventurous dog owners and their pups since it is one of the most well-known great collars when it comes to being dustproof, waterproof, and detailed dog activity tracking history. In case you wanted to protect your dog within or miles away from your vicinity via a smart and virtual fence, and you wanted to train your doggie, Halo dog collar is the best choice.
Both have great reviews and it’s up to you which one suits your dog’s lifestyle.
