GPS dog collars have definitely revolutionized the way we monitor and protect our pups. However, not all are created equal. One of the most crucial features that set the best collars apart is their battery life. After all, a tracking collar is only as good as the amount of time it can actually reliably keep track of your pet.
Today, we’re exploring the GPS dog collars with the longest battery life that ensure your pup’s safety without frequent recharges. Start with a quick peek at the top three, then read on for all of the details.

Which GPS Collars Have the Longest Battery Life?
Before we jump in, just a couple notes. As with the best smart collars, I’m setting this up a bit differently than our usual “top X” type posts. We’ve covered most (if not all) of these collars in great detail in other posts.
So, rather than repeat myself with massive lists of pros and cons, we’ll quickly go over the top features of each one, then talk about the battery life, and finish up with a few things to consider. If you do want in-depth details, check out our post on the best GPS tracking collars of 2024.
I also want to quickly explain my thought process for choosing the order of these collars and how I came up with my top picks. Rather than just going in order of battery life, I went in order of battery life + features. So, even though the #1 pick doesn’t have the longest battery life of all, it’s the best collar feature-wise but also factoring in the battery. Does that make sense?
Now that we’ve covered all of that, let’s dive into the list!
PS: If you’re looking for great options for your feline friend, check out TechnoMeow’s list of the best cat GPS trackers!
1. Halo Collar 5
If you want to contain your dog, track his location, AND monitor his activity without constantly charging the battery, the Halo Collar 5 is the best option. It’s consistently one of our top picks across nearly all categories of GPS collars.

- High-accuracy PrecisionGPS™ with an active antenna for real-time tracking.
- 20 location updates per second for unmatched precision
- Automatically switches between Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and LTE to optimize performance, battery life, and responsiveness.
- Separated Wi-Fi & Bluetooth chips for faster, more stable connections
- Supports all-carrier cellular coverage worldwide and auto-connects to the carrier with the best service no matter where you go.

Battery Life
The new Halo Collar 5 now lasts up to 48 hours on a single charge. Again, that depends on how you’re using it. If you’re mainly using the fencing features it’ll last longer. If you’re taking it out and about constantly, expect to charge it a bit more frequently.
Considerations
Like the PetSafe GPS + Tracking Collar, you can’t activate the Halo Collar without a subscription.
Also, like most collars on this list, it doesn’t work with small dogs under 20 lbs (or with neck sizes below 11”).
Marketed as the most accurate GPS dog fence available, the Halo Collar 5 lets you create, edit, and store unlimited fences (starting at 30 x 30 feet). It fits dogs with neck sizes from 8–30.5 inches. Beyond containment, it offers near pin-point GPS tracking to help locate lost dogs quickly, along with built-in training tools and activity monitoring—all in one collar.
Top Features:
- 48-hour battery life
- AlwaysOn™ GPS
- Real-time tracking
- All-carrier cellular coverage worldwide.

2. SATELLAI Collar- GPS Dog Fence

If you’re looking for the longest-lasting battery on the market, the SATELLAI Collar is hard to beat. It’s one of the newest names in the GPS collar game, but it clearly came to play with the big dogs—literally and figuratively.
SATELLAI pulls off what a lot of GPS collars only try to do: combine real-time tracking, customizable virtual fences, AI-powered health insights, and robust training tools in one sleek device. Oh, and did I mention the up to 7-day battery life? Yeah, it’s a beast.
Features & Pros
- Get real-time tracking supported by five satellite systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, and QZSS), even in hard-to-reach areas.
- Set free virtual fences with unlimited custom zones—no subscription needed for fencing.
- Use deployable indoor beacons to keep your pup out of the trash or away from your favorite houseplants.
- Tap into the AI Coach for breed-based health, nutrition, and training guidance.
- Choose your correction style: tones, vibrations, voice commands, or even optional static correction.
Battery Life
Let’s talk about the real star of the show here: the battery. SATELLAI clocks in with 5–7 days of battery life on a single charge, depending on how much tracking and feedback you’re using. That’s up to a full week of peace of mind without constantly worrying about plugging it in. And when it does need a charge? It only takes two hours to juice back up, thanks to the magnetic fast charger.
This is especially ideal for road trips, camping weekends, or just busy lives where “remember to charge the collar” doesn’t always make it to the top of your to-do list.
Considerations
The app and AI features are still actively evolving, so not every function is fully polished yet. Also, while the collar fits securely and comfortably on most medium to large breeds (with neck sizes from 14-30”), it might be a bit bulky for dogs on the smaller end of the medium spectrum.
The SATELLAI Smart GPS Dog Collar combines real-time tracking, customizable virtual fences, and AI-powered health insights in one sleek, durable design. With global coverage, indoor beacons, and up to 7 days of battery life, it’s built for active dogs and peace-of-mind pet parents.

3. PetSafe Guardian GPS 2.0 + Tracking
The PetSafe Guardian GPS 2.0 + Tracking collar is a major upgrade to an already solid contender in the smart dog collar space. While the original Guardian model was a newer player in the GPS scene, PetSafe itself is anything but new. With more than 25 years of experience and a stellar reputation—especially for invisible fences—this brand knows how to keep pets safe.

Features & Pros
- Enjoy real-time GPS tracking with enhanced precision, giving you a constant view of your dog’s location on an interactive map—no matter where you are.
- AccuGuard™ technology with improved AI and dual-frequency GPS, offering smarter, more reliable boundary control and motion tracking.
- Store up to 50 fully customizable virtual fences
- Stay in control with the My PetSafe® app, which offers instant alerts, boundary status, and tracking features in a user-friendly interface.
- Choose from tone, vibration, or 10 levels of static correction to match your dog’s training and sensitivity.
- Now fits a much broader range of dogs with neck sizes from 8″ and up with a smaller collar design that works for about 98% of breeds.
- A monthly subscription is required.

Battery Life
Another big win with the 2.0 model: battery life is now up to 70 hours on a full charge. That makes it one of the longest-lasting options among GPS fence + tracking collars we’ve tested.
Charging is still just as easy and intuitive as before. The collar comes with a simple charging base—just attach the base to the collar and let it power up. No tiny ports or tricky connectors to deal with. Just make sure the contacts are aligned and you’re good to go.

Considerations
The main consideration with this collar is that you will need a subscription to activate and use it. That’s kind of common these days with GPS collars, though.
It also doesn’t work with smaller properties (under half an acre) and it does face some challenges in heavily wooded areas (although it’s always worked fine for me, and I live in the woods).
Get peace of mind about your dog’s safety and location with PetSafe® Guardian® GPS 2.0 Dog Fence + Tracking, the most advanced wireless GPS dog fence with real-time tracking. No buried wires, no complicated installation—just safe, easy and reliable containment wherever you go.

4. SpotOn GPS Collar (New Model with Improved Battery)
After the Halo Collar 3, the SpotOn GPS collar is one of the most well-known across the smart collar category. It’s significantly pricier than every other collar on this list, but it does come with a 5-star guarantee (meaning if you don’t absolutely 100% love it, they’ll give you your money back).
Features & Pros
- Patented True Location™ GPS technology improves accuracy.
- Create and store unlimited unique fences, either in the app or by walking your property.
- Covers as little as 1/3 acre up to thousands (no maximum limit).
- Easily create “Keep Out zones” right in the app.
- Forest mode boosts GPS reception in areas with lots of trees.
- Sizes fit dogs with necks ranging from 10-26″
- No cell service needed to create fences (you will need it for tracking, though).
- No subscription needed for virtual fence features (again, you’ll need it for tracking).
Battery Life
The latest model of the SpotOn
Like the first PetSafe collar, SpotOn uses a charging base rather than a port on the collar itself. Just pop it on at night and it’ll be ready to go in the morning (it takes about 90 minutes to fully charge).
Considerations
The obvious consideration is the price. It’s the most expensive GPS collar on this list by several hundred dollars. They do soften that blow a bit by not making you pay to activate it. However, if you plan to use it as a tracking collar (and honestly, at that price you’ll want to use EVERY feature possible), you’ll have to add a plan.
The other issue, again, is that it doesn’t fit small dogs. SIGH. I know I’m repeating myself here. Maybe someday (hopefully soon), one of these big collar brands will come out with something for the little guys.
Create GPS dog fences of any size, any shape and almost anywhere. SpotOn GPS Fence is reliable, flexible, and easy to use thanks to their patented True Location™ technology. Experience life unleashed with the SpotOn virtual fence for dogs.

5. Tractive Dog (Standard and XL)
Okay! Finally! We have a GPS tracker that can fit just about any pupper! Of course, there’s a bit of a trade-off (which is why it’s not higher up on the list). We’ll talk about that in the considerations, though.
Features & Pros
- Get real-time location updates and track your dog’s movements.
- Set safe zones and receive instant alerts if your dog leaves the area.
- Track your dog’s exercise and sleep patterns to monitor their health.
- Works in over 175 countries with unlimited range.
- Waterproof & Durable: Built to withstand rough play and water exposure.
- Comes in two versions: Standard and XL. Both actually fit most dog sizes, but the XL is just a little more robust in terms of battery life and size.
- Fits dogs as small as 8.8 lbs.
- Works with just about any collar
Check out Tractive review for more details.
Battery Life
The battery life depends on which model you choose. For the standard (original)
As far as charging goes, it uses a proprietary magnetic charger that connects directly to the collar. You’ll either need to buy a separate brick or just plug the other end into a USB port on your PC (which is what I do).

Considerations
The most important thing to consider is that while
Tractive is also a totally subscription-based collar, meaning you can’t activate it without buying a plan. Their cheapest plan is a few bucks more per month than the other collars on this list. However, the initial cost of the tracker is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.
BONUS: Heel Roam 350
I’m adding this as a “bonus” because it’s not really a GPS collar, or even a traditional fence. It’s really in a category all on its own! Think of it as a virtual leash. If that’s confusing, I also think of it as a fence that moves with you. I’m including it here both because it has an amazing battery life and because it’s such a great option for those who do a lot of hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities.

Features & Pros
- Uses Autoprox, a proximity-based system that keeps your dog within a specified range automatically.
- No need for GPS, cellular service, or a subscription. It works anywhere.
- Provides real-time feedback on the remote when your dog reaches the boundary.
- Choose from 10 ft, 25 ft, 75 ft, 150 ft, and approximately 750 ft to control how far your dog can roam.
- Offers manual correction up to 350 yards (1050 ft).
- Easily check the connection and battery status on the remote.
- The collar is water-resistant, and the remote is splash-resistant.
- Available in medium (12″ to 17″) and large (15″ to 24″) sizes.
- Made in the USA
Check out my full Heel Roam 350 review to learn more.
Battery Life
The Heel Roam 350 battery lasts up to 4 days in AutoProx mode and over a week in manual mode. It ships with a small charge so you can jump right in and get it set up. I was actually surprised by how long that “small charge” lasted.
The charging process itself is a bit different here, as you’ll need to charge both the collar and the base. Thankfully, the Heel Roam 350 ships with everything you need to do them both at the same time, including a dual-port wall charger with two cords.
Considerations
The biggest thing to consider is that this isn’t a tracking collar, nor is it an actual fence. It’s literally a virtual leash. YOU are the “home base” (or rather the remote is, but you’ll be carrying the remote) and then you set your dog’s “roam” boundary to within one of 5 radii (Side note-I literally just learned that’s the plural of radius) around you.
The other thing is that it doesn’t work with super tiny dogs. However, it does work on neck sizes of at least 12” (if you get the medium). Think “Bichon-size and up.”
The Heel Roam 350 Virtual Leash is a one-of-a-kind training collar that allows you to create invisible fences on the go and keep your dog close-by even off-leash.
Conclusion
Choosing the right GPS collar for your dog is about finding the perfect balance between battery life and the features that matter most to you and your pet. Whether you need a collar that offers extensive real-time tracking, a robust virtual fence, or a hybrid solution with customizable boundaries, the options we’ve discussed here provide some of the best in the market.
The Halo Collar 5 earned our top pick by combining an impressive 48-hour battery life as well as tracking and fencing features, all at an affordable price (compared to other multipurpose collars).
