We Tested the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush in a Very Fur-Filled House

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush Upright Vacuum Review
Written by Nicole Etolen

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush Upright Vacuum is one of those products that immediately makes sense the second you use it in a real pet household. Between the dual brush rolls, FurFinder headlights, strong suction, and genuinely useful pet-focused design choices, it feels built for the kind of messes dog and cat owners actually deal with every day, not just the carefully staged cereal spills you see in vacuum commercials.

After testing it throughout our very pet-filled house (with help from my mom, who treats vacuum testing the way wine connoisseurs do a wine tasting), I came away seriously impressed by how well it handled everything from embedded cat hair to tracked-in dirt and cardboard scratcher debris. It also managed to expose just how much fur was lurking in places I thought were already clean, which was both satisfying and mildly humbling. Keep reading to see what I loved and what, if anything, I would change.

Real-World Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush Review

A little context before we get into it. If you’ve followed my reviews here, you know about my dog Freya. If not, she’s a Pharaoh Hound that looks like she doesn’t shed at all but in reality, she sheds A LOT. Here fur is just much shorter so it’s harder to see everywhere.

Freya wondering if it’s food because 90% of the time when we call her over to check something out it is some sort of tasty treat.

I also have cats that shed like it’s their freaking five-year plan to leave as much fur around as possible so they can start selling whole new cats. So, pet hair is definitely an issue.

On top of that, I live in a cul-de-sac that’s surrounded by woods on three sides, so there’s also a ton of dirt and pollen coming in every time we open the door. Now that I say all of that I can see how my mom became such a vacuum cleaner aficionado. FYI, those are her hands and legs you’ll see in some of the pictures.

Okay, now that we have background out of the way, let’s start with what I really liked about this pet hair vacuum.

Setup Is Ridiculously Easy

Setup took less than 5 minutes total, including me saying “wait, let me take a picture.” Granted, my mom has assembled enough vacuums over the years that she probably could do it blindfolded at this point, but even if you’ve never put together a vacuum before, this one is extremely straightforward.

There aren’t fifty confusing parts or mysterious pieces left over at the end making you question your life choices. You basically snap together the main components exactly where you think they should go, and that’s pretty much it.

Easy to assemble pieces (minus one attachment that we missed in the box)

The Size Hits a Nice Sweet Spot

Comparing this Bissell to other vacuums that that we have right now, one thing I noticed is that while this is a full upright vacuum, it doesn’t feel oversized or clunky. I wanted to call this out because I’ve seen reviewers say the complete opposite. They felt that’s it’s large and unwieldly.

The actual vacuum body is a bit more compact than the older upright we were using before, which makes a surprisingly big difference when you’re maneuvering around furniture or trying to wedge into tighter spaces.

That said, it’s still on the heavy side. Not insanely heavy. I think it’s right on par with other uprights, but I thought that it would be slightly lighter since it’s a bit less bulky.

The Headlights Are Way More Useful Than I Expected

I absolutely love the LED headlights on this vacuum! I didn’t think I’d be this enamored by something so simple. I’ve had vacuums with headlights before, but they were always really dull. These are super bright without being blinding.

Bright yet not blinding LED headlights

Our house doesn’t get a ton of natural light in certain areas, and the FurFinder headlights immediately exposed pet hair and debris I didn’t realize were there. They’re especially helpful when your pets happen to camouflage themselves directly into your flooring situation.

Freya, for example, is basically the same general color as parts of our carpeting. She’s slightly more reddish-brown, but close enough that her very short fur tends to disappear until suddenly your socks are wearing it. The headlights made a huge difference there.

They also revealed the true state of one particular black rug near Zoe’s favorite cardboard scratcher. This rug sits in a high-traffic area near the front door, so it collects:

  • Cat hair
  • Cardboard scratcher debris
  • Dirt tracked in from outside
  • General mysterious household grime

Honestly, I didn’t even realize how messy it had gotten until the headlights hit it.

The good news is that the vacuum handled it incredibly well. One pass removed most of the debris immediately, and after a second pass the rug looked completely clean again. The before-and-after photos do a much better job showing it off than my brown carpeting does.

Performance on Carpet and Hard Floors

About 80% of my house is carpeted, but we also have tile in the kitchen, dining area, and bathrooms. The DualBrush handled both surfaces without any issues at all.

The two brush rolls work together really effectively here. One agitates and loosens debris while the other stays in closer contact with the floor to pull everything in. It sounds a little like typical vacuum marketing language until you actually see how much stuff it picks up in one pass.

Closer look at the two brushes

FurGuard Actually Helps

If you have pets, you already know the brush roll situation. Every vacuum claims to prevent hair wrap. Then eventually you’re sitting on the floor with scissors trying to cut what appears to be an entire second animal out of the roller.

The FurGuard self-cleaning brush roll genuinely seems to reduce buildup quite a bit. It’s not magic, obviously, but it definitely cuts down on the amount of hair wrapping around the roller compared to older vacuums we’ve used.

The Attachments Are Better Than They First Appear

At first glance, it might seem like this vacuum includes fewer attachments than some competitors. But honestly, I think that’s partly because the included tools are more versatile instead of giving you fourteen hyper-specific attachments you’ll never actually use.

The LED TurboBrush Tool is basically like a mini powered version of the full vacuum. It works extremely well on stairs, upholstery, pet beds, and furniture where fur likes to weave itself directly into the fabric like it’s paying rent.

My mom pointing out the LED TurboBrush Tool

The LED 2-in-1 Dusting Brush/Crevice Tool (not pictured because we didn’t see it in the box at first) also pulls double duty nicely without adding unnecessary bulk to the storage setup.

So, while the attachment list looks shorter on paper, it really doesn’t feel limiting in practice.

It’s Loud…But Weirdly Not Stressful?

One thing worth mentioning is that this vacuum is a little louder than the one we were using previously. Not like jet-engine loud, but definitely noticeable.

That said, Freya’s reaction surprised me. She’s usually wary of vacuums and will scram once one starts up.But with this one, she barely reacted at all.

Freya chilling on her Scooby blanket ignoring the vacuum.

So now I’m wondering if the more compact shape somehow makes it seem less intimidating despite the extra noise level. Either way, it ended up being less stressful for her than expected.

(Your mileage may vary if your dog already treats the vacuum like a mortal enemy.)

The BISSELL Pet Foundation® Partnership Is Actually Meaningful

I also really love BISSELL’s long-standing support of the BISSELL Pet Foundation.

Every purchase helps support efforts to save homeless pets, and this is one of those partnerships that feels more substantial than a quick marketing tie-in or vague “we give back” mention. BISSELL has donated millions toward the foundation’s work over the years, and as someone deeply involved in animal rescue and feral cat care, that matters to me.

It’s nice supporting a company that clearly puts real resources behind animal welfare efforts.

They’re actually up to over $31 Million now.

Any Drawbacks?

Honestly, there aren’t many so far. I already mentioned that it’s on the heavy side, but not really any heavier than your standard upright in my opinion.

The biggest consideration is probably the price. At full retail, it sits around the higher mid-range price point for an upright vacuum. But that’s also pretty normal now for a good-quality vacuum from a reliable brand, especially one built specifically for pet-heavy homes. Plus, Bissell has some really great sales.

And while it isn’t exactly quiet, it’s also not obnoxiously loud to the point where it becomes unpleasant to use.

I’ve seen other customers say that they wished the cord was self-winding since it does have a nice long one. That doesn’t really bother me though. I’d rather have a good vacuum that doesn’t suck up its cord at the push of a button than a bad one that does.

Beyond that, I’ve been really impressed with it overall.

Final Thoughts

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush feels like a vacuum designed by people who actually understand what living with pets is like.

Not just the fur itself, but the dust, the tracked-in debris, the cardboard scratcher fallout, the upholstery fur, the weird corners where hair accumulates despite all known laws of physics.

It cleans extremely well, handles multiple surfaces effortlessly, feels easier to maneuver than many full uprights, and includes features that are genuinely useful instead of just flashy.

And honestly, any vacuum that can impress both me and my vacuum-obsessed mother is probably doing something right.
