What Is the Maven Dog Health Tracker?
The Maven Dog Health Tracker is a 24/7 pet health monitoring system designed to help pet parents detect early signs of illness before they become serious. It works with a lightweight, waterproof sensor that attaches to your dog’s existing collar — no bulky tech or special accessories required.
The system continuously collects and analyzes your dog’s vital signs and behavior through AI and vet-developed algorithms, all viewable in the Maven mobile app (iOS and Android). Each pet has their own personalized baseline built during the first week, so any deviation — even subtle ones — triggers an alert.
Basically, it’s a proactive way to keep tabs on your dog’s wellness without waiting for visible symptoms.

Top Features
Before diving into the pros, cons and real-world results, here’s a quick look at what makes Maven stand out:
- Tracks multiple wellness indicators: Monitors activity, rest, heart rate, respiratory rate, scratching, and hydration — all from a single collar attachment.
- Vet-developed AI: Data interpretation is based on clinical research and fine-tuned with input from Maven’s in-house veterinary team.
- Personalized baselines: Establishes and updates each dog’s “normal” levels, so alerts are meaningful and not one-size-fits-all.
- 24/7 monitoring: Continuous health tracking with real-time notifications for any concerning changes.
- Waterproof (IPX7 rated): Safe for dogs who love to swim, play in the mud, or race through puddles.
- Detailed app insights: The Maven app gives daily, weekly, and monthly summaries with clear trends and vet-approved tips.
- Multi-pet support & discount: One subscription can monitor up to three pets. While it will cost more to add multiple pets, they give you a deep discount the second and third.
- Universal fit: Works with any collar — even martingales or custom leather collars.

General Pros and Cons
Real-World Review: Testing Maven with Freya
I’ll be honest — I didn’t keep the Maven sensor on Freya 24/7. That’s on me, not Maven. It does need to be on all day for 7 days straight to set up accurate baselines for things like itching and drinking behavior, the tracker needs to be worn continuously for at least seven days. But Freya doesn’t wear a collar to bed — we’ve trained her that “collar off” means the day is over and it’s time to settle down. It’s part of her routine, and I didn’t want to mess with that.
This isn’t unique to Maven — most pet health trackers need full-time wear for the most precise data. Still, I do wish there were an optional “daytime only” mode where you could set your dog’s active hours, and the app could build a baseline from that. It’s not a deal-breaker at all. I didn’t even mention it in the cons because I think most people leave their dog’s collar on 24/7. I’m always an “outlier” and never the “norm.” 🙂
Even without 24/7 wear, though, there’s still a ton you can do with Maven. The data it collects during the day is incredibly detailed and useful. Here are a few highlights that stood out to me:
Daily Activity Events Log
The events log is both informative and surprisingly fun to read. It breaks down Freya’s day into little moments — when she’s quiet, when she stretches, when she takes a break between bursts of activity. It almost feels like reading her diary.

Health Symptoms Journal
The health symptoms journal is my favorite feature. It lets me log anything unusual — like a day when her stomach seems off — and add notes about what she ate. Over time, that helps me spot patterns that could point to sensitivities or early signs of a problem.
Since Freya’s nine now, it’s also great for keeping track of orthopedic notes — if she limps after we walk on a certain trail or terrain, I can record it and avoid that route next time.

Lightweight and Comfortable
Since it attaches to your dog’s existing collar that they’re already used to, the chances of them even realizing that it’s there are virtually nil.
The Maven Sensor weighs just under 0.5 oz (14 grams), so it’s insanely lightweight. Put into perspective, it’s lighter than half a slice of bread.

It’s also very low-profile, so it doesn’t dig into Freya or anything when she’s wearing it. Trust me, if it was uncomfortable, she’d let me know. She’s not shy about that.

Super Easy Setup
Getting the system set up and attaching it to the collar is super easy. I did have a moment of panic when I thought it wouldn’t work with a martingale that doesn’t open but turns out you don’t actually need to open up the collar. You just put the clip on one side and then pop the sensor into it from the other side.

Once you get your sensor and base station going (which took me less than 3 minutes), you’ll want to set up your dog’s wellness profile. This was another area that really impressed me. The app gives you a lot of options, from different activity levels to sleeping habits and diet types. It feels tailored to your individual dog instead of a one-size-fits-all setup.
Overall, using Maven feels less like a gadget and more like having a digital health assistant that actually understands your dog’s rhythms. Even if you can’t use it 24/7, it still delivers meaningful insights and peace of mind — and for me, that’s a win.
Final Thoughts
The Maven Dog Health Tracker is perfect for anyone who wants a deeper look into their dog’s well-being — not just how many steps they take, but how they’re really feeling. Its combination of clinical precision, AI insights, and user-friendly design makes it one of the most advanced health wearables on the pet market right now.
If you’re the kind of pet parent who values prevention over panic, Maven’s worth every penny of the subscription. It’s peace of mind in a tiny waterproof package. Visit their website to learn more about Maven’s dog health tracker!
