If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering whether your dog actually gets enough exercise—or if that burst of zoomies really counts as cardio—you’re not alone. More and more pet parents are turning to dog fitness trackers to keep an eye on their pups’ daily activity, sleep, and overall health. Think of them as Fitbits for dogs… minus the guilt of ignoring your own step count.

So, does your dog need a fitness tracker? Maybe not in the same way they need food, water, or their favorite squeaky toy. But is it incredibly helpful to know how much they’re moving, resting, and burning off all those treats they convinced you to hand over? Absolutely.

Whether you’re trying to manage weight, monitor recovery after an injury, or just want a clearer picture of your dog’s day-to-day wellness, these trackers can be game-changers. And since there are plenty of options out there—some simple, some super smart—I’ve rounded up the best dog fitness trackers to help you choose.

Best Dog Fitness Trackers a.k.a. Fitbits in 2024

Our team did extensive research and tested over 15 different dog fitness trackers brands and narrowed down the list to the best of the bunch! From simple “I just want to track my dog’s activity and nothing else” to “I want something that does just about everything except actually walk your dog for you” collars, there’s something for everyone below.

FYI, this post includes affiliate links. If you buy anything through our links, TechnoBark earns a commission at no extra cost to you.

1. SATELLAI Collar GO

The new SATELLAI Collar Go is the smart, fitness-focused option that quietly pays attention to the details. At its core, SATELLAI Collar Go tracks live GPS location with second-by-second updates, but for fitness tracking specifically, it leans heavily into behavioral intelligence. Instead of just counting steps or logging vague activity minutes, it uses PetSense™ AI to build a personalized baseline for your dog’s movement and rest patterns.

That baseline is where things get interesting.

Over time, PetSense™ learns how your dog typically walks, runs, rests, and moves throughout the day. It tracks walking and running patterns, rest duration and quality, and even subtle behaviors like head-shaking frequency. The goal isn’t just to record activity. It’s to understand what’s normal for your dog. If something shifts—less movement, disrupted rest, increased head shaking, or a noticeable change in daily rhythm—the system flags it.

For fitness tracking, this means you’re not just seeing that your dog was “active for 42 minutes.” You’re seeing whether today’s activity matches their normal intensity and rhythm. You can spot trends over time, identify gradual slowdowns, and catch early signs of discomfort before they turn into bigger problems. You can also use the built-in AI chat to ask questions about trends that you see.

Another strength is how the Collar Go integrates safety with fitness. Because it combines activity tracking with unlimited virtual boundaries and detailed location history, you can see where and how your dog moves in different environments. If you hike, travel, or allow off-leash time, that combination of movement data and precise GPS adds meaningful context to your dog’s exercise patterns.

SATELLAI Collar Go works especially well for active dogs, dogs with variable routines, and pet parents who want more than a step counter. If you’re looking for a fitness tracker that uses AI to interpret behavior—not just collect it—this one absolutely deserves its spot near the top of the list.

2. Maven

Maven takes dog fitness tracking to the next level by blending activity monitoring with real-time health insights and 24/7 vet support. While plenty of trackers can show you how much your dog moved today, Maven focuses on what that movement means for their overall well-being.

Like PetPace and Fi, Maven tracks your dog’s daily activity, rest patterns, and general wellness trends. You’ll get data on how much your dog walked, played, and slept, plus an at-a-glance look at whether they’re hitting healthy goals for their age, size, and breed. If you’re trying to build a better routine—or just want to make sure your dog isn’t secretly living the potato life—this part alone is incredibly helpful.

But Maven really shines in how it uses that data. When the collar detects something unusual—like a sudden drop in activity, disrupted sleep, restlessness, excessive licking, or changes in mobility—it instantly alerts you in the app. These insights are especially helpful for senior dogs, dogs recovering from injuries, or pups with health conditions that benefit from close monitoring.

One of my favorite Maven features is the access to round-the-clock veterinary support. Instead of just giving you numbers and expecting you to interpret them, Maven’s team of licensed vets can review your dog’s trends, explain what’s going on, and recommend next steps. It turns your dog’s fitness tracker into a true health companion.

Another standout is how Maven tracks emotional and behavioral indicators, not just physical activity. It picks up cues like heightened anxiety, itching episodes, or restless pacing—things many trackers overlook but that can make a huge difference in your dog’s comfort and happiness.

When it comes to durability, Maven is sleek, lightweight, water-resistant, and built for everyday wear—whether your dog loves trail adventures or prefers supervising from the couch.

If you want a fitness tracker that offers activity data and meaningful, real-time support from actual vets, Maven is one of the smartest choices you can make.

3. Petivity Smart GPS + Activity Tracker for Dogs

Petivity Smart GPS + Activity Tracker for Dogs — A Simple, Affordable Way to Keep Tabs on Your Dog

Petivity Smart GPS + Activity Tracker takes a different approach to dog fitness tracking. It’s not trying to compete with clinical-grade health monitors or high-end smart collars. Instead, it focuses on something most dog parents actually need: reliable activity tracking paired with real-time GPS, all at a price that doesn’t feel like a second car payment.

Like other trackers on this list, Petivity monitors daily movement and activity patterns. It tracks walking, running, and playtime using a built-in accelerometer that measures motion in three dimensions. The system can tell the difference between structured walks and chaotic backyard zoomies, so you’re not just looking at inflated step counts. You get a clearer picture of how your dog is actually spending their energy.

For fitness tracking specifically, Petivity lets you set activity goals and review trends over time. You can see how active your dog has been throughout the day and compare patterns week over week. If you’re working on weight management, increasing endurance, or just trying to make sure your dog is getting enough movement, that kind of long-term visibility is surprisingly helpful.

One thing I appreciate about Petivity is that it keeps the data simple. You’re not buried in graphs that require a degree in analytics to interpret. Instead, you get practical insights you can actually use. If your dog suddenly becomes less active than usual, that shift is easy to spot, which can prompt a closer look or a conversation with your vet.

The built-in GPS is what gives Petivity an edge over basic fitness-only trackers. If your dog slips out of the yard or pulls a Houdini act at a campsite, you can switch to live tracking mode and see their location update about every 10 seconds. It’s not a virtual fence or a training system, but it is a very solid safety net.

If you want deep medical monitoring, there are more advanced options out there. But if you’re looking for an affordable, straightforward fitness tracker that also doubles as a GPS safety backup, Petivity absolutely earns its spot on this list. It’s practical, easy to use, and refreshingly uncomplicated—which, honestly, is exactly what a lot of dog parents are looking for.

4. PetPace 3.0 Health Monitoring Collar

PetPace Smart Collar Review

PetPace is one of the most advanced dog fitness trackers on the market, but it’s really in a category of its own. While most trackers focus on steps, sleep, and GPS, PetPace adds true health-monitoring technology—the kind that gives you a much deeper look at your dog’s overall wellness.

Like other options on this list, PetPace tracks daily activity and rest patterns. But what really sets it apart is its clinical-grade health data. PetPace continuously monitors vital signs such as pulse, respiration, heart-rate variability, body temperature, posture, and even calories burned. It’s basically a smart collar and a wellness check rolled into one.

For fitness-tracking specifically, PetPace gives you a breakdown of when your dog is active, how intense that activity is, and how it compares to their typical baseline. If something changes—say your dog suddenly becomes less active, sleeps more than usual, or shows irregular vital signs—the system flags it for you right away.

One of my favorite things about PetPace is its alert system. Instead of just showing you numbers, it analyzes trends and sends real-time notifications if something looks off. That makes it incredibly helpful for dogs with chronic conditions, older pups who need extra monitoring, or anyone who likes having actual data behind their dog’s health.

PetPace also lets you see long-term trends, compare activity levels across different time periods, and share detailed health reports with your vet. If you love having actionable data (or you have a dog like mine who’s prone to keeping secrets about how they’re feeling), this feature is a huge win.

In terms of durability, PetPace is lightweight, comfortable, and water-resistant, with a battery designed to last days—not hours—between charges. It’s built for everyday wear, whether your dog spends their time adventuring outside or napping on the couch.

If you’re looking for a fitness tracker that goes beyond steps and sleep and into real, meaningful wellness insights, PetPace absolutely belongs on your list.

PetPace Smart Collar 3.0

The PetPace Smart Collar is a high-tech health tracker for dogs that monitors vital signs, activity, stress, and sleep—all in real time. Designed for comfort and built with vet-grade technology, it syncs with an easy-to-use app to give pet parents peace of mind and early alerts for potential health issues. Ideal for senior dogs or pets with medical conditions, it’s a powerful tool for proactive care in a sleek, wearable design.

5. Tractive Dog GPS Collar & Activity Tracker (Standard and XL Model)

Both the standard and the XL model of the Tractive GPS Dog collar make excellent budget-friendly fitness trackers for dogs. I do think the XL is a better budget pick for large dogs, but honestly, they’re both excellent.

As with PetPace, Tractive acts as both a GPS tracker and activity monitor. Like Fi, it also has limited invisible fence features (although neither are nearly as robust as Halo in that department).

In terms of fitness-tracking capabilities, Tractive has some really standout features (obviously, otherwise it wouldn’t be on this list, right?).

Stats of dogs activity on Tractive app

First, the activity monitoring feature helps you make sure your dog get enough exercise by showing you how long and how often he’s active throughout the day.

Tractive also has a sleep-tracking feature so you can monitor how much (and how well) your dog sleeps each night. One of my favorite features, though, is how Tractive monitors all of this for you and sends you health alert emails when it detects changes in activity and/or sleep.

I also like that I can compare my dog’s activity with other dogs. This way, I can get an overview of the trends and normal routines of similar breeds. If you are competitive, there is also a feature wherein you can see the ranks among the other dogs in your area or even worldwide. You can also challenge your friends to outdo your dog’s performance.

When it comes to design, the Tractive tracker is made to be adventure-proof and 100% waterproof.

7. FitBark 2 Dog Activity Fitness Tracker & Monitor: Best Fitness-Tracker-Only Pick

If you JUST want a dog fitness tracker and don’t really need or want all of the other bells and whistles, the  FitBark 2 is an amazing way to go. They also have a FitBark GPS model, but it requires a subscription just to activate. At that point, you might as well go with a true GPS dog collar. So, let’s just stick with the FitBark 2 here.

Given that the FitBark is literally ALL ABOUT dog fitness and activity tracking, you’d expect it to have some pretty robust features in that department, right? Thankfully, it delivers on that expectation. I would say it’s very similar to FitBit but designed specifically for dogs. You can tell by its name!

The FitBark 2 tracks everything you could need or want to know about your dog’s daily activities, including:

    • Monitoring health, sleep and behavior 24/7
    • Monitoring mobility, anxiety and even skin conditions
    • Comparing health with that of similar dogs
    • Getting all of your dogs AND humans on one family dashboard

Let’s talk about that last feature because it’s fairly unique compared to other dog activity monitors. The FitBark 2 can link up with your own human tracker, and even with your Apple Watch.

Additionally, you can easily share your dog’s data with your vet, trainer, or other family members so you can work together to monitor your dog’s health. The pièce de résistance, though, is that you can access all of this information either through the app OR through the dashboard on the FitBark website

Design-wise, while it may look a bit on the bulky side, the Fitbark is actually pretty lightweight at just 10 grams. It’s tiny enough to fit dogs as small as 3 lbs, meaning you could even use it on a teacup poodle (they weigh 6 lbs on average). Heck, I’ve had KITTENS that were bigger than that. If you’re curious, technically yes, you can use it as a cat tracker, but according to FitBark, “…you won’t find much in terms of comparative norms and baselines”.

FAQs About Dog Activity Monitors

Let’s finish things off with a few common questions about fitness trackers and activity monitors for dogs.

Will a Fitbit Work On A Dog?

Yes and no. While you can use a Fitbit on a dog, these devices are designed and calibrated specifically for humans. So they may not accurately track your pet’s activity levels or provide any real meaningful data. It’s recommended to choose a dog-specific fitness tracker for reliable results.

Why should I invest in a dog fitness tracker?

A dog fitness tracker provides valuable insights into your pet’s health and well-being, helping you ensure they get enough exercise, monitor their sleep quality, and detect any potential health issues early on.

What features should I look for in a good activity monitor for my dog?

At the very least, look for features such as activity monitoring, sleep tracking, waterproof design, long battery life, health alerts, and compatibility with your smartphone or other devices. If you’re going for a fitness-tracking collar, consider

Are dog fitness trackers safe for my pet to wear?

Yes, most dog fitness trackers are designed with pet safety in mind, using lightweight, durable materials that are comfortable for your dog to wear. However, it’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and ensure the device fits properly to prevent any discomfort or injury.

Do dog fitness trackers require a monthly subscription?

Some dog fitness trackers may offer additional features or services that require a subscription, such as premium app features or advanced tracking capabilities. However, many basic fitness trackers offer free access to essential features without any recurring fees.

How do I set up and use a dog fitness tracker?

Setting up a dog fitness tracker typically involves downloading the companion app, creating a user profile for your pet, syncing the device with your smartphone or computer, and following any on-screen instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Can I track multiple dogs with one fitness tracker?

Some dog fitness trackers offer the ability to track multiple pets within the same app or account, while others may require separate devices for each dog. Check the specifications of the tracker you’re interested in to see if it supports multi-pet tracking.

Conclusion

A dog fitness tracker is a very helpful tool and fun addition to our canine companions’ gear. Activity monitors like these mentioned above may even help prevent complications by keeping you informed of Fido’s daily health and well-being. So, back to one of our original questions. Is it worth it to get a dog FitBit? In my opinion, absolutely!
