Trackimo Mini Dog GPS Tracking Device Review: Is It Worth Buying?

Written by Mark Braeden

A US-based IoT company, Trackimo, offers its customers sophisticated tracking solutions using a variety of proprietary (patent-pending) technological innovations. The firm also has servers that use the least amount of bandwidth to send information to apps and systems.

One of their products is the Trackimo Mini Dog GPS tracking device. You can track your pets in real time using this tiny device. As long as there is a T-Mobile network available, you won’t have to worry about where your dogs have disappeared.

I tested this tiny tracking device on my dog to see how it works and if it is worth the purchase. Read on to find out my verdict.

My Experience with Trackimo Dog GPS Tracking Device

After trying the Trackimo Mini Dog GPS tracking device, I can say that it is a pretty decent locator. Since it is lightweight, my dog is not bothered or uncomfortable when wearing it. Just be sure to get a good dollar with a reliable pouch for the device.

It is nice that it uses GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi signals so there are alternatives when it is hard to get signals. You can easily see on the app which network it is using to track your pooch.

Though there are times that I had to restart the app several times to be able to detect the exact location of my dog. I understand that the coverage is not 100% guaranteed, but I had to close and open my Trackimo App more than five times before it shows the accurate location.

I have read some Amazon reviews though that it gets the precise location over time. One user said it took him six months for it to work well for him. I am hoping my experience will also get better in time.

These two were major reasons why I did not include Trackimo in the list of the best GPS trackers for dogs and I’d stick to either Fi collar or Tractive.

Trackimo Pros

  • Compact and Lightweight
  • GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Geo-fencing
  • SOS Button
  • Friends and Family List
  • Battery life: 96 Hours

Trackimo Cons

  • No collar
  • Requires cellular network coverage

What is Trackimo Mini Dog GPS Tracking Device?

The Trackimo Mini Dog Tracker is a 2G locator that functions with the T-Mobile IoT network. Using the Trackimo smartphone app, you can locate and track your dog as long as you have access to a GSM 2G cell network. Their web browser can be used to track your pets as well.

If you are not in a major urban area where T-Mobile has poor coverage or if you are in Canada, we advise trying the Guardian 3G GPS tracker, which comes with a special pouch for pets.

How Does It Work?

The Trackimo GPS Tracker uses the GSM mobile phone network to transmit data from the GPS device to the app over the internet. The T-Mobile IoT network is utilized to provide cell coverage in the US. Although this gadget ought to function wherever your cell phone does, coverage cannot be 100% guaranteed.

The device needs to be used outdoors to connect with GPS satellites in order to provide your dog’s precise location. If there isn’t enough open sky to maintain satellite contact, it will track and locate your pet using any available Wi-Fi signals before using cell phone tower triangulation.

The Trackimo App will indicate if your pup is being tracked using Wi-Fi, GPS, or cellular networks.

Trackimo Mini Dog GPS Tracking Device Features

Design

The Trackimo GSM tracker is incredibly compact and light, measuring only 1/2″ in height, 1.4″ in diameter, and 3/4 oz. A collar with an attached pouch is necessary to put on your pooch.

This tracker uses existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to provide precise tracking for the last 100 feet both inside and outside without the need for passwords.

Here are a few of this device’s highlighted features:

Tracking History

This tiny but amazing device has a tracking history feature that allows you to view your dog’s historical location. It stores up to one-year of tracking information.

SOS Button

Trackimo GPS tracking device has an SOS button that notifies you and anyone else you designate of your pet’s location. If someone comes across your lost pet, they can use the SOS button to alert you and send help right away.

Long Battery Life

Depending on usage, the battery life lasts approximately 96 hours, giving you more than enough time to find your pet in case they get lost. As soon as the battery needs to be recharged, the device will let you know.

Geo-Fencing

With the Trackimo pet tracker, you can create GPS dog fences around your house or yard and get alerts when your pet leaves the boundary.

Family and Friends List

This device also allows you to add your family and friends to your Trackimo account. Once added, they will also receive important alerts that can aid in searching for your dog.

Final Verdict

Given that Trackimo doesn’t really specialize in pet trackers, this is a pretty good device that you can purchase for $179. Our main issue with it is that it is ineffective in remote areas without adequate cell network coverage. Finding a suitable collar with a pouch that can hold the device is another difficult task.

Nonetheless, it does its job most of the time and it has nice features too that I like such as the SOS button and Family & Friend List. Overall, I can say that the Trackimo GPS tracking device is worth trying out but I’d rather go ahead with Fi collar or Tractive as a dog location tracking solution
