Reviewing PEtFON Pet GPS Tracker and testing it on Gold Retriever
Written by Mark Braeden

PetFON  is a smart GPS tracker made for dogs. This dog GPS tracker is perfect for going out for walks or a run with your dogs, although it is not as good when monitoring them while inside the house. It provides location and movement information and also tracks down your dog’s activity for a fitness diary. This might be a big bummer for you to read but I suggest you first check out our PetFON Dog GPS Tracker review to get to know the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing this smart dog tracker.

Pros and Cons of PetFON Dog GPS Tracker

How Does PetFON Tracker Work

Upon purchase, the box includes the GPS tracker for your dog and the control module for you. It works as an activity monitoring device for your dogs which you can check like a fitness diary. PetFON has a downloadable app for your smartphone where you can get real-time location updates and set up safe boundaries for your dogs to keep them away from danger.

You need PetFON if you love going on walks with your dogs or traveling with them. One good reason is that it comes with a travel charging box that lasts up to two weeks for let’s say a camping or hiking trip.

PetFON Tech Specs Review

Design

The PetFON dog GPS tracker comes with two modules, the tracker and the controller, with very sleek and elegant design placed inside a very neat case. It is very small and lightweight, and can be easily attached to your dog’s collar. The modules measure 42mm x 42mm x 18mm and only weigh 27.6 grams.

Battery Life

The battery power lasts for up to 8 hours. If you want to save battery power, just turn off the positioning indicator light in the pets menu. You can also deactivate the WiFi Assisted Locating Option and change the tracking interval option in the settings to conserve battery. You have the option to change the positioning interval every 10 seconds, 20 seconds, or one minute.

PetFON GPS tracker also features a Power Save Mode so if all of the above options are not enough, you can choose to activate this mode for longer battery life. The downside of this is that PetFON will not send you auto updates of your dog’s location. You will need to manually click the update button to refresh the info to show their true location. The strong point of this mode is that it stretches the battery power for up to 72 hours.

Durability

The PetFON GPS tracker has an IP65 rating which proves its durability as it is waterproof and dustproof. This is perfect for outdoor activities and traveling so you do not need to worry much about the wear and tear, and just let your dogs enjoy their playtime under the sun or rain.

Apps

PetFON tracker app review

The app is very easy to use. Upon opening, it will show you the map, and it provides you information about your dog’s location, your smartphone’s location, and daily history. The app can also show you the status of the controller and the dog tracking device to check if they are connected and all good. The app also allows you to customize the geo-fence and other important settings such as the alarm and voice command systems. Another great feature of this app is called the Radar which lets you search for your pup when the GPS signal becomes weak, and the closer you are to your pup, the faster it will beep.

PetFON General Features Review

Geo-fence

PetFON GPS tracker features a customizable geo-fence to set a safe zone and boundaries for your dogs to rest and play in. This is utterly important because we always want our dogs to stay in a safe space and environment near us. This feature also lets you indicate a danger zone which is an important feature to have for the safety of your dog. This is so that when your dog steps on that area, it will send you alerts instantly.

You can set multiple safe zones and danger zones but only one virtual distance boundary. You always have the option to add, edit, and delete your virtual fence when needed.

Radar

This is a great feature PetFON has that lets you search your dog in case you lose GPS signal. The device gives off a beeping sound that lets you know how close you are to your dog; the faster it beeps, the closer you are to them. There is also a button in the app you can click to make the tracker ring.

Remotely Activated Light and Sound Alarm System

This feature is very helpful in instances that you lost your dogs or when they wander farther away than you wanted them to be. It is a perfect system to help you find your pup in an outdoor environment.

Voice Command

The voice command is a customizable feature where you can record your voice to set commands for your dog. In this way, you can play it for them when they roam a bit far away from your location and command them to come back to where you are. A very convenient way instead of shouting out loud when you are not sure if they can actually hear you or not.

PetFON vs. Competitors

Is It Worth To Purchase PetFON Pet Tracker?

With a single feature called Radar, I can say that PetFON dog GPS tracker is worth it to purchase for your dogs because in an unfortunate case the GPS signal gets lost, this device still allows you to locate your pet without the use of any cellular network. It is very handy especially for dog owners who love outdoor travels and adventures with their pups. If you are looking for a better option, make sure to check our Fi collar review.

Conclusion

One of the downsides of the PetFON GPS dog tracker is that the battery life only lasts up to 8 hours, although, upon purchase, it comes with what they call a travel charging box that can last for up to two weeks, so you can charge it there when needed. This device is a bit costly is another thing that I do not like about this brand, but given that they have the Radar technology for this device, it is safe to say that it is absolutely worth it because this lets you locate your pet in case you lose your GPS signal. One more thing to note is after the one-time purchase, they do not require any subscription fees for you to be able to use this feature. Check the current price for PetFON here.

  • I’m looking for a GPS tracker that can be attached to a martingale collar or if a GPS collar is available in a martingale style. Thank you.
